The exhibits at Bressingham provide a great educational backdrop for the industrial revolution, the power of steam both mechanically and the influence the railways had on society. The Dad's Army Museum provides a slice of life during WWII where the Home Guard played such a historic part.
With twenty acres of gardens and green space to the ore-inspiring power of steam Bressingham boasts a plethora or learning opportunities to engage and provoke young minds. From our indoor recreation of a 1940’s street, complete with air raid bunker and sweet shop, to Victorian Gallopers, working steam engines, postal train and railways there is a vast potential for allowing students to engage with National Curriculum themes in an immersive environment.
If it is an extra curricular trip you are after Bressingham can offer a day out riding the narrow gauge trains, gallopers and enjoying the the gardens. Students can look to see how royalty of the past travelled in their own carriages, how mail was sorted on the move, or just see the scale of standard gauge steam locomotives as you stand against their magnificent wheels; wheels which bought about the standardisation of UK time and fish and chips as a nationally available dish.
With plenty of indoor and outdoor activities as well as covered picnic areas Bressingham is well suited to school groups no matter the weather. Bressingham is on the Norfolk / Suffolk border just a few miles away from Diss and is easy to get to from both the A11 and the A140, with plenty of free coach parking.
