Top Steam Rallys in 2017Next Post
Summer 2017 is shaping up to be a hot one so it’s a good time to start planning some summer days out - and we can’t think of a better way to spend the day than taking in the sights and sounds of a Steam Show!
Here’s a quick rundown of the best Steam Shows taking place in summer 2017 in and out of Norfolk (in addition to Bressingham’s own great summer steam events!)
Summer Steam & Vehicle shows happening in Norfolk
The first of our recommendations for your Steam related pleasure is the Little Ellingham Vintage Working Show which takes place between Thetford and Norwich on the 10th and 11th of August.
This is not a big affair, and information is sparse being limited to a single Facebook page but that’s what adds to it’s charming village fete style atmosphere.
Amongst the attractions will be Steam threshing, baling & chaff cutting, Shire horse displays, Vintage tractors, cars, lorries and motorbikes.
For a slightly larger affair you could visit North Norfolk Railway Steam Gala taking place from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd of September.
We’ve mentioned The Norfolk Norfolk Railway Poppy Line in previous posts as a great working railway and their annual gala provides an opportunity to see their home fleet in action as well as guest engines:

The Strumpshaw Steam Rally celebrated it’s 25th anniversary in May 2017, but there’s still time to join in at their Autumn Steam rally taking place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of September.
This puts it in direct competition with The North Norfolk Railway Steam Gala so you’ll have to choose!
Other Steam Events in UK that might be worth a visit
Norfolk isn’t the only part of the UK you can see some great steam rallys - Early in August you could visit the Gloucester Vintage & Country Extravaganza.
The event boasts a huge range of vintage vehicles - claiming to feature nearly 700 classic cars from pre and post war, including over 70 Classic American, plus 230 Motorbikes, scooters, 70 bicycles from 1903 - 1980, 30 miniature steam engines, 91 stationary engines, 70 full size steam engines, model engineering, 200 Tractors, over 60 Buses and Coaches, 105 Military Vehicles, 240 Emergency and Commercial Vehicles, vintage Caravans and Model Aircraft flying displays.
In direct competition with that dizzying array of vehicles not too far away is Devon is the Torbay Steam Fair, an altogether smaller affair featuring twenty seven Full size and seventeen Miniature Steam Engines, with seven of the Full size Engines being Showmans (in 2006)
Formed in the winter of 1986 by a group of local steam enthusiasts, the Torbay Steam Rally Group held their first Rally on the traditional dates of the 1st weekend in August, in 1987.
Are there any local or national Steam Rallys you think we should know about?
If you’ve particularly enjoyed any Steam Events in the UK which we haven't mentioned let us know.
We always like hearing about other Steam realted events!
